Hello! My name is Hatsie.
I am a Human Ecology Student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies with certificates in Art History and Entrepreneurship.
Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies (CBMS) is a nationally ranked program blending technology and business analytics with creativity and empathy. In the pursuit of my CBMS degree I’ve unearthed my passion for exploring ecological systems through the lens of art, design, and fashion.
Inspired by my outstanding expat professors in the School of Human Ecology, I decided to follow my love for the arts and culture to France and Spain.
Venturing to Paris in January of 2023, I spent four months as a student at the Alliance Française in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. Studying both French and Global Art History, I explored over 35 Parisian museums, from the Louvre to the Guimet Museum of Asian Art. Outside the classroom, I took it upon myself to become an expert on Parisian fashion, beauty, and style.
After a summer home in Norwalk, Connecticut, I began my second feat abroad. In Madrid, I studied independently as a remote UW-Madison student, granting me the freedom to move around while attending class from my laptop. Without a campus or physical classroom, I immersed myself in the city, taking advantage of the dozens of public libraries and parks scattered across the Spanish capital. During free weekends, I saw as much of Europe as I could afford, visiting over 15 different cities during my four-month stay.
While living in France and Spain, I was prompted daily to think about the ways humans use and have used space. In France I learned from the past. The art, architecture, and fashion of the Ancien Regime exemplify an innate desire for beauty. Though Spain is equally rich in artistic history, I found myself most excited about the future of functionality in public space. Madrid is at the forefront of human-centered design, creating efficiency and pleasure in everyday life that is extraordinarily inspiring.
2023 was a year of exponential discovery, growth, and beauty. More than ever, I am inspired to continue to think critically about how humans create, respond and connect with their space through art and design.
Encased in this website is my visual experience of Paris and Madrid.
